DAY 6 -- MONTGOMERY
In Montgomery, the students visit the Alabama State Capitol building where they receive a lesson on Governor Wallace and his "segregation forever" campaign. Finally, Sojourners visit the Civil Rights Memorial (below) and the Civil Rights Memorial Center. The group bids farewell to Montgomery and travel on to Birmingham. On the bus, Mr. Steinberg conducts a lesson on the Birmingham movement of 1963. Upon arrival in Birmingham, participants view Spike Lee's documentary "Four Little Girls." A father of one of four girls slain in the 1963 church bombing meets the group, speaks and answers many anguished questions.
