How Sojourn Is Making a Difference.
With the direct support and encouragement of visionary, compassionate individuals, organizations, and leaders within the private and public sectors, Sojourn Project has consistently and vigorously provided unique, energizing, and transformational educational trips for middle and high school students, teachers, police officers, and community members since 1999 that foster a society where all people are treated with respect and dignity.
Rigorous academic engagement and in-person, life-affirming interactions with the veterans of the Civil Rights Movement to nurture and expand students’ opportunities for personal and professional growth, and empowerment toward civic responsibility.
Tribute to Jimmy Webb, Civil Rights veteran, symbol of resistance to the “forces of segregation”.
“…As the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s death approaches, we need to recall his messages more than ever, ‘Now is the time to lift our national policy from the quicksand of racial injustice to the solid rock of human dignity.'”
~ Minnijean Brown-Trickey, Member of the Little Rock Nine, Civil Rights Activist, Environmentalist, Peacemaker
We Connect the Pain of History with Hope for the Future.
The depth, breadth, and impact of Sojourn on the people we touch and our society at large are unlike those of any other organization or nonprofit.
USA Today describes the Sojourn experience: “More than 90 California high school student are crying and hugging their way this week through the hard, bloody years of the Civil Rights Movement…”
“Young people have helped lead all our great movements. How inspiring to see it again in so many smart, fearless students standing up for their right to be safe; marching and organizing to remake the world as it should be. We’ve been waiting for you. And we’ve got your backs.”
